booming business!

Well, not exactly booming, but coming along real nice. Had a few grooming customers from my ad so far, which is really good. The new yellow book just came out with my bigger more detailed in it. So hopefully more people will realize I'm a pet supplies store and not just a groom shop. I bought more shelves and reorganized my whole shop. I think it looks much more professional. I'm also carrying more brands of dog food. Only the best though. No commercial brands. Since my daughter has gone back to work full time, I've been on my own running the shop. But yesterday I did have some help.

May we help you?

Meet Gracie

Gracie is a maltese/poodle mix. She's a very sweet dog. But she can be hard to groom. She doesn't like her head touched. And she is fast! Doesn't she look so sweet and innocent?

Just try and touch her head though and she turns into the tazmanian devil...well, without the devil part, because she isn't mean, and doesn't try to bite, she just evades. And does a really good job too!

Just try and put clippers or shears to this face! Take note that her body never moves. Only her head.

Seth is home!

My boy is home! He's very thin, is unsteady on his feet, has no muscle and stinks..but he's home! He definitely feels much much better. He is eating like a horse and even wanted part of my donut! He didn't get any of course. First thing he did when I took him out back was mark every tree and bush. Seth is back! Meg was very happy to see him, they kissed forever!

This is the offending object.

It used to look somewhat like this one without the bells. I had found half of it in the yard one day and thought no way could anybody have swallowed the other half, it was too big. That was over 2 months ago!

Seth and Mist

Today is Friday. Seth has been at the vets since Saturday. Good news is he is now starting to eat a little bit and is holding it down. The exploratory surgery did find a piece of toy in his colon. While it was no longer causing a problem since it had already made its way through the digestive tract, it and possibly other "objects" over time had caused a lot of damage to the intestine. This is a dog who is usually either kenneled or crated when I am not watching him outside. I guess nobody gets toys now. I am so relieved he is doing better. I may get to bring him home tomorrow. His birthday is Sunday and he will be 9 years old.

Meg has seemed a bit off and I attribute it to Seth being gone. She is hanging around me all day and has to be touching all the time. Today I put "Mist, the sheepdog pup" on tv for her to watch. I just bought it and watched it last night myself. It is for kids, but I love it! So does Meg.

Tues and still no Seth

Went to the vet this afternoon to pick up Seth. Had a talk with the vet and he didn't feel Seth was ready to go home. He said while he is perky enough, he's still not eating well. We discussed the possibilites and determined it really isn't acting like pancreatitis. He says it seems like a possible intussusception. I said I'd rather leave him there and determine exactly what the problem is rather than bring him home and see how it goes. It may cost me more, but this is Seth we are talking about. So, he's going to do an ultrasound or something and if it shows anything he will do an exploratory surgery. With Seth it is possible he has a foreign body. He does chew stuff up and has injested stuff before. He once threw up half a tennis ball. Guess he'd rather swallow stuff than let another dog get it. Anyway, I am Sethless for one more day at least.

Mike is trying to keep my spirits up by being silly. For some reason he has it in his head there is something in the stacked crates in my groom shop. He spent a long time just staring into the corner.

He started out innocent enough.

Then got a bit more determined

Then he got serious about finding whatever it was he thought was there.

Thing is there was nothing there!

Now everytime he goes into the kennel room he stares into the corner. I might ask the vet if they have a mental ward at that hospital.

Vets and Snow

Seth is still at the vet hosp. He was still vomiting so they wanted to keep him one more day. Other than that he's doing well. This is the longest he's not been with me except for the 5 mos or so that he was in VA with Alasdair getting some fine tuning. I miss him.

It is snowing today. Been doing so most of the day. It doesn't stick much here though. Just enough to make a mess. The dogs like it, well at least some of the dogs do. Reign is thinking "I sure wish she'd throw something"

Meg doesn't much like being in the wet and cold. She'd prefer laying on the couch watching snow on the tv.

She's thinking " Please let me in, my nose is cold."

Poodles don't do well in snow either. Torka thinks we are torturing him. The snow is cold on little poodle feet! He wants to move to Florida.
