almost chicken coop and porch dogs

Went out to my house tonight and took all the dogs. It still needs a lot of work before it is move in ready, but we have been working on the chicken coop. I started out with 10 baby chicks, 4 of which were for a friend. I now have 6 almost full grown chickens in my shop basement. They need their own  home now.

Here is what we have done so far. Cleaned out the shed and put up some fencing.

We still need to cover the top of the fencing and put chicken wire around the base so they can't stick their head out and get them bitten off by something. We cleared out the inside and we need to put a layer of dirt down and level it out. Plus finish bricking in the bottom of the building. Oh and put a door on the front!

The house may still be in need of a lot of construction, but it has to be the most peaceful place ever. Everybody who has been there comments on the seclusion and quiet. I can hardly wait to be able to move in and watch my sheep in the field. For now I have dogs on stumps.

And on porches

and on porch chairs.
Meg likes this back woods living. She says "get the hell away from MY porch!"

Seth just likes having his picture taken in the clover. Behind him you can see a whole stand of poison ivy. It's all over the place! I haven't gotten it so far, but I'm sure I will. I'm going to have to get some goats to eat it down.

All these very old jars/bottles came from under the house. We found them all when we removed the flooring. Some old jars even have something in them. Someone at some time used the underneath of the house to store the food they canned.

and lastly, frolicking in the clover.

class of 2010!

Well my baby has now graduated from high school! She is no longer a little girl  :(  It was a really lovely ceremony with over 400 seniors. Now her life really starts! I have mixed feelings. Sad that my last offspring is now an adult, but happy that she can come to work with me everyday, at least for a while.

Me and the graduate..

Big sister..

Kinda dark because they had black curtains draped all over, but she is getting her diploma here.

After..

shearing sheep

So, I got to do some shearing today at work. Not the usual I'll admit, but it was a challenge and took me quite a long time to get the fleece off. Fortunately it was a very patient sheep and was very cooperative. Anybody have a guess at what kind of sheep this might be?
I've never seen a sheep with blue eyes before, I wonder if its some rare Arctic breed?

It's a jungle out there

No gas for the lawnmower which isnt' here at the shop anyway. I took both weedwhackers to my house so I have nothing here to mow the back lot with. The dogs and cat love it!

Good thing dogs aren't green, I'd never find them!
